CNBLUE’s composer Kim Do Hoon speaks on plagiarism allegations

Composer Kim Do Hoon, who has recently been suffering from various plagiarism accusations, for songs such as CNBLUE’s “I’m a loner” and Kim Jong Kook’s, “Can’t forget,” has finally released an official statement.

On the 8th Kim Do Hoon stated:

“I want to say to all of the music fans and industry professionals that I’m very regretful and sorry to cause everyone such an inconvenience. I was trying to hold back my words, but I couldn’t resist with this crisis. I want everyone to know that the reason I didn’t speak out on these allegations are not because I had nothing to say, or because I was agreeing to the allegations.”

He added:

“I debuted in 1995 and in 1998 through Jang Hye Jin’s song “To Eternity (영원으로),” I was able to obtain my first title. Since that for over 10 years I have composed about 300 songs. And out of those songs, about 90 of them were either title songs or follow up songs. Recently, when I read the articles about me, the majority of them are claiming that I made it this far as a plagiarizer. Throughout these 10 plus years, my stance on music has never changed. I have many tracks where there have been no plagiarism allegations. The point I want to make first, is that I didn’t make it this far as a plagiarizer.”

Kim Do Hoon added:

“The plagiarism controversies right now all started from netizen made videos. Right now it’s a trend for people to find similar songs and point it out. Even if it’s not my songs, there are so many videos being created that songs are similar, and out of those videos, there are songs that may be real issues as well as ones that are just the opinions of an individual. But out of those songs, the ones that become a successful song are the only ones that become news articles. It’s the opinion of one person and their video that starts an issue and it becomes a news article, which turns into a plagiarism controversy. Furthermore, the reports make it seem as if the song was deemed plagiarized and that the composer is guilty.”

In addition:

“The song that has been in the news lately, ‘I’m a loner (외톨이야),’ has only one word that is similar. And the news reports that claimed the chords were the same were inaccurate, nor was the intro the same. Even the chorus melody where it goes, ‘Wae Tol Ee Ya Wae Tol Ee Ya (외톨이야 외톨이야),’ is not similar at all. Only the part where it goes, ‘Dari Diri Daram Do’ is similar, but that melody is also in Country Kko Kko’s ‘Oh Gani’ and Park Sang Min’s ‘Mediterranean Sea (지중해)’. In addition, that melody is also in a song I composed for Ha Dong Kyoon, called ‘Far Far (멀리멀리)’.”

Kim Do Hoon also stated:

“In Davichi’s ‘8282′ there’s only a similarity in the very beginning of the song, everything after that is totally different. In Kim Jong Kook’s ‘Can’t forget’, there are no similarities in the song, only a slight similarity in the intro. If my words do not make sense, please listen to the tracks again and make a better informed decision. There are so many songs that have a similar word/portion. Even many famous American songs have songs that have the same word or similar sounding portions. If I wanted to kill myself trying to find similar songs, I would be able to find even more songs that are a lot more similar than what the netizens are uploading.”

He added:

“Beyond the current controversy surrounding ‘I’m a loner’, there have been many reports that other tracks made by me were similar and plagiarized. Moving forward, if people keep saying songs are plagiarized so easily and uploading videos of small parts that sound similar, it’s not just me but all of the other composers who will not be able to compose freely. Right now there are so many cases of plagiarism that are stirred up by netizens. These issues should be analyzed by a professional and a plagiarism case should only be determined by them. But trying to create and stir an issue using the internet without solid evidence to destroy a composer, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do.”

Kim Do Hoon finally stated:

“I really hope there won’t be anymore cases where composers are cornered into a wall, just because some people think a song is similar sounding. Finally, to all the music fans who have showed interest and love in my songs and to the industry professionals, to all of you, again, I am sorry to have worried and inconvenienced you.”

Wow that was long! But to those who took the time to read through everything, please share your thoughts and opinions on this matter as well as all of the other plagiarism allegations going on. With that said though, Kim Do Hoon’s response and explanations make a lot of sense, perhaps we can put this all behind us now and finally move on.

Wonder Girls release “Tell Me” in Chinese!

Although many kpop fans may be getting tired of the Wonder Girls‘ top hits, many international fans are getting their first whiff of the pop quintet with the recent releases of Nobody, So Hot and now Tell Me in Mandarin Chinese.

Obviously the lyrics are in a different language, but there are some notable changes: for example, Sohee’s ‘omona’ has been changed to ‘please (請你)’ and Yubin’s is completely in English.

Without further ado, here’s the song:

Brown Eyed Girls’ ugly past revealed

On the February 7th episode of KBS 2TV’s Sweet Night, pictures from Brown Eyed Girls when they first debuted were revealed, causing everyone, including the MCs, to do a double take and the Brown Eyed Girls to cower in shame behind their long hair extensions. To lighten the mood after the pictures were revealed, MC Shin Dong Yup joked, “I prefer the way you guys looked when you first debuted.”

Although the girls have been very forthcoming recently about the changes to their faces from cosmetic surgery, I have to admit that even I was not fully prepared for the reveal of their “ugly” pasts. What do you think of their transformation?

SNSD’s Jessica crashes servers

SNSD fans have once again showed their dedication and power.

Tickets for Jessica’s last performance in March for her musical debut in “Legally Blonde,” went on sale on the 8th (today). Well, immediately after ticket sales went live at 2:00 PM, Sones flooded the servers to purchase their tickets and crashed the servers. The site was inaccessible for nearly 30 minutes straight.

For those fortunate enough to have scored tickets, you are blessed. For everyone else, mash F5 harder next time.

After School’s UEE was strict towards Raina and Nana?

After School’s leader Kahi revealed that UEE isn’t just a dirty girl but also a strict one.

Kahi revealed, “I’m the leader but it seems like UEE is the scary one,” on Strong Heart, a statement that took many people by surprise. When you look at UEE, you don’t wouldn’t imagine a scary individual who would whip your ass.

Kahi said, “Not long ago, we got new members. One day, UEE was watching them practice and she called them out to a different room. I don’t know what happened but the next day, the two new members seemed self-conscious.”

The dance team was present during the talk between UEE, Raina and Nana, so Kahi eventually heard about the story. The idol continued on to explain what really went down Strong Heart. After hearing the full story the other guests on the show said, “Wow, UEE is nothing like I expected.”

To find out about what really happened between UEE, Raina and Nana, stay tuned for the episode which airs on February 9th.

SNSD’s Seohyun likes sweet potatoes

On today’s episode of Sweet Night, SNSD played a round of Ideal Type World Cup. Though they chose Song Seun Hun as their ultimate type at the end, maknae Seohyun had a different man thing on her mind.

SNSD’s Taeyeon revealed Seohyun’s huge love for sweet potatoes. A bit odd, yes. While the members were on the topic of dreaming about hot male celebrities, Seohyun said she’s never dreamed about a guy star when she was asked about it. Then Taeyeon said, “She probably dreams about sweet potatoes.”

The other members chimed in and agreed with Taeyeon’s funny statement. Then they all started to reveal that Seohyun is obsessed with sweet potatoes and has absolutely no interest in guys. Seohyun even chose sweet potatoes over Song Seung Hun! What kind of a girl in her right mind would do that?

Taeyeon also talked about how Seohyun packs herself sweet potatoes and eats them like a little hamster. She offers some to the members but she makes a face that reads, “I don’t actually want to give this to you.”

SHINee visits a Japanese orphanage

On February 6th, boy group SHINee performed at the K-POP Festival in Sapporo, Japan. The next day, the angelic boys decided to visit an orphanage in the city and put smiles on the little kids’ faces.

They gifted the children with shirts that had Korean on it, Korean snacks and Korean stuffed animals. I guess the purpose was to introduce Korean culture to the boys and girls.

SHINee and the 60 children split up into teams and played games. The children even performed for SHINee. With Sapporo TV recording every minute of this event, the boys received much kudos from the Japanese fans.

SHINee said, “It was for a short period of time but we made a lot of memories in Sapporo. Meeting these children made this trip more meaningful. If we get the chance to, we want to visit Sapporo again.”

SHINee is wrapping up an Asia promotion by hitting Hong Kong on the 12th, Cambodia on the 21st and Fukuoka on the 27th.

Family Outing comes to an end

Family Outing has finally come to an end. The variety show has been on a roller coaster ride since its start in 2008. It was well received, hit high ratings, became a #1 Sunday night show, then lost two members, Lee Chun Hee and Park Ye Jin, got into controversies, went down in ratings and it is now over.

The second part of their last journey aired today and it received decent ratings, 16.1%. It went down since last week but maintained its recent mediocre popularity.

There were tears and lots of them. The Family tough girl Lee Hyori choked up as she said goodbye to everyone. The show definitely left a lot of memories for everyone on the show but also for the viewers.

Let’s all reminisce back on everything this national family went through to give people lots of laughs. The cast definitely stepped out of their celebrity high-maintenance images and had fun.

Though it started losing its popularity, it was still an entertaining show that never failed to have amazing guest line-ups. The second season will hopefully impress and out-do the first, but we’l just have to wait and see. Family Outing 2 will begin airing next week, but they will also air the Family Awards, a little ceremony where the season one members will award each other.

Here's is the ending ;

Here’s a preview for the awards and next season:

Big Bang’s Big Show 2010 flooded with celebrities

I’d like to say that Big Bang’s Big Show concert series has been a big deal in Korea, but that would be an understatement. On December 29 last year, over 150,000 fans joined the frenzy to snag a ticket to these shows; in fact, the 12,000 tickets for the January 29 show sold out in less than five minutes, giving participants a 0.08% chance of success.

Despite the chaos, a large number of celebrities were able to grab some seats (presumably through connections) and enjoy Big Bang’s show. In fact, over forty big names were spotted at the concerts, giving the Big Show quite a star-studded audience.

[DAY 1] Gong Yoo, Park Shin Hye, Jinusean, Teddy, Lee Hyuk Soo (G-Dragon’s friend and actor from What’s Up), What’s Up cast & staff, Yang Seung Ho & Lee Hyun Jong (2NE1 stylists), 2PM’s Junsu, Kara’s Goo Hara, BEAST, Patty Kim, Into the Gunfire staff & cast, Kim Seon Kyung, Chinatsu Wakatsuki

[DAY 2] Kim Seung Woo with wife Kim Nam Joo (IRIS)

[DAY 3] Kwon Sang Woo with wife Son Tae Young, Chae Ye Ryeon, Heo Yi Jae, Uhm Jang Hwa, Jinu, PSY, Battle’s Shin Gi Hyeon, Park Min Young (Haru Haru), Kim Hee Ae, Lee Cheon Hee, Yang Seung Ho (2NE1 stylist), Yang Mi Ra

Talk about VIPs killing three birds with one stone – they got to watch their favorite idols in action, donate to Haiti and experience some surprise celebrity sightings as well!

Who is SNSD’s ideal man as a whole?

We’ve all seen individual members of SNSD play the Ideal World Cup game before, but what about SNSD’s ideal man as a whole? Well that’s exactly what was revealed during the recent episode of Sweet Night in which SNSD (except YoonA) played the Ideal World Cup game as a group.

As an additional twist, the show also included childhood pictures of male celebrities during the game. It was funny to see how the votes sometime flipped for the pictures of celebrities back when they were children versus pictures of them now. However, once the the dust settles it was only 2PM’s Taecyeon and actor Song Seung Hun that remained standing, vying for the title of Korea’s most envied man. And with the final vote count of 6 to 2, Song Seung Hun was crowned as SNSD’s ideal man.

The whole time I was watching this, I was anxiously waiting for my picture to show up on the screen, but I guess the rumor floating around that I am not SNSD’s ideal man is true after all. I was really hoping that it was just another one of those stupid rumors my mom likes to spread in order to destroy my self esteem. Like that one time she told all the neighbors that I eat cereal with water and that I like to wear panties. FALSE! I do not eat cereal with water.

2PM’s Nichkhun sways to Bo Peep Bo Peep & Mister

A few days ago, 2PM’s charmer Nichkhun took a trip down south to Thailand with fans. A recent fancam of the idol at the Suzuki Jelato event in Pattaya taken on February 7 shows that Nichkhun’s definitely enjoying his vacation, and even performed a quick cover of T-ara’s Bo Peep Bo Peep and Kara’s Mister to a roaring crowd of ecstatic fans.

Check out the butt-shaking action here:

Nichkhun may be known as the Wink King, but I think he should be crowned for his fanservice expertise as well. Who knew that Nichkhun was so good at swaying his hips?

CNBLUE talks about the type of women they like

A few days ago, the K-pop idol band CNBLUE made an appearance on Choi Hwa Jung’s Power Time Radio and one of the questions they were asked was, between older women and younger women, which do you prefer? Surprisingly, all 4 members responded by saying that they prefer older women.

Bassist Lee Jung Shin said that he’s afraid that a younger woman wouldn’t be able to take the lead role in the relationship, but he has confidence that an older woman would. Lead guitarist Lee Jong Hyun revealed that all the girls he’s dated in the past were older than him and that his perfect woman is someone who has an adult-like maturity that he can count on in time of need. Drummer, and the band’s maknae, Kang Min Hyuk explained that he naturally favors older women because he has an older sister that treats him well. He went on to say that older women are better because they make good money and they could afford to buy him good food, since he doesn’t have that much money. CNBLUE’s leader, guitarist and lead vocalist Jung Yong Hwa, responded by saying that honestly he doesn’t prefer one (older women) over the other (younger women) but, for the sake of the team, and in an effort to not be the odd man out, he chose older women.

Don’t worry younger CNBLUE fangirls. Although his final answer was “older women,” it looks like Yong Hwa gave you one ray of hope in your dream of becoming a CNBLUE girlfriend. Good luck with that.

When the members of CNBLUE were asked what type of woman they could see themselves falling in love with at first sight, they again, all gave the same reply by saying a “very feminine” woman. Yong Hwa elaborated on his answer and said that she would have to be feminine, but she’d also have to give off an aura of cuteness. Jung Shin then added to his answer as well and said that in addition to being feminine, she would need to look like the type of woman that has a strong set of principles.

Lastly, CNBLUE was asked who they thought the best looking member of the band was, and they agreed that it was lead guitarist Lee Jong Hyun. However, hypothetically speaking, they also chose Jong Hyun as the member that seemed to be a connoisseur of porn movies.

I guess that’s one of the few downfalls of being a lead guitarist. When in doubt, blame the porn on the guy that vigorously runs his hand up and down the shaft of a guitar all day. Tough luck buddy, I feel your pain.

Going back to the subject of older women, I just want to let it be known that I don’t discriminate. I myself like women of all ages, as long as that age is 18 and above. I also want to let you know, ladies, that I don’t have a girlfriend. Honest. However, I do have a girl that I spend a lot of “quality time” with who would kick my ass from here to eternity if she heard me say that “I don’t have a girlfriend.” She also has the uncanny ability to sense when I’m up to no good…wait…I think I heard something outside… Oh, it’s nothing. It’s just some random crazy girl, who I swear I don’t know, screaming, “I know you’re thinking naughty thoughts, and they’re not about me! If you don’t get your ass out here right now then I’m not buying you that keg for the Super Bowl!” (Dammit. Why now?) Well. Um. I’ve got to go. I forgot to wash the trash and take out the dishes (Pray for me).

2AM triumphs with Won’t Let You Go Even if I Die on Inkigayo!

2AM has become quite the fan favorite with their comeback track Won’t Let You Go Even if I Die, and there’s little question why – each member of this group is seriously talented! Many music fans believed that powerhouse girl group SNSD would take the Mutizen on this week’s episode of SBS Inkigayo, but 2AM came out on top, winning a Mutizen for the first time in their career.

Clad in white & silver and swamped with fog up to their knees, the 2AM boys pulled off yet another great performance:

This week’s Take 7 nominees were SNSD for Oh!, CNBLUE for I’m a Loner, 2AM for Can’t Let You go even If I Die, HyunA for Change, SeeYa, Davichi & T-ara for Wonder Women, Kim Jong Kook for This is the Person and Gavy NJ for Sunflower. Unfortunately, HyunA could not perform due to 4minute’s promotions in the Philippines. Well, CNBLUE’s short-lived reign lasted just a week with 2AM taking the lead tonight. Congrats to them!

Upon their victory, the boys visibly choked up. I swear, these guys are way too precious…

news issue about CN BLUE

CNBLUE plagiarized their album title?

According to certain netizens, the answer is yes.

The dust has yet to settle after CNBLUE fell under fire with plagiarism accusations regarding their debut album I’m a Loner, and the media has announced that the unsolved matter will officially be taken to the court. However, it looks like FNC Music, CNBLUE’s label, might soon have a second controversy to clear up against Ynot, the indie band that claims to be the victim in this issue. A number of netizens now believe that FNC Music has not only plagiarized the track itself, but also their album title; some people have noticed an uncanny similarity between the two names.

As many already know, CNBLUE’s album is entitled Bluetory, and the track of the alleged original album by Ynot is titled Bluebird. Obviously the word ‘blue’ is used in both titles. Now, some may argue that this alone isn’t enough to make a plagiarism case, since ‘blue’ is such a common word. However, it turns out ‘tory (とり)’ actually means bird in Japanese, making both titles essentially identical.

FNC Music has made a statement regarding this allegation:

“The album was personally titled by the president of our agency. It’s a combination of the word ‘blue’, a reference to CNBLUE, and ‘tory (토리),’ a pure Korean word [terminology commonly used in literature, not everyday language] that refers to the musical individualism that each region of a country has. Together, ‘Bluetory’ refers to the idea that CNBLUE will show their own color of music to the audience.”

“Show their own color”? How ironic…

Perhaps an album title isn’t enough to generate an independent lawsuit of its own, but it certainly isn’t helping CNBLUE’s absolute denial of having any relation or knowledge of Ynot.

It’s time for you guys to be the judges again – Bluetory vs Blue Bird. Do you think FNC Music’s title was inspired by Ynot, or is this an unfortunate coincidence?

Thanks to leachang for the tip.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Netizens accuse CNBLUE & FNC Music for plagiarism yet again

Only hours have past since the album-title controversy has surfaced over the web, and it doesn’t look like it’s getting any better. Well this time, it’s a song title.

After discovering the shocking similarities between the two titles between Bluetory and Blue Bird by CNBLUE and Ynot, various netizens have brought up another accusation against FNC Music, CNBLUE’s agency. The third song of CNBLUe’s Bluetory album is entitled Y, Why…. Coincidentally or not, ‘Ynot’ and ‘Y, Why…’ not only both include the letter Y in the title, but they are used identically to define the word ‘Why’. Neither side of the conflict has yet to bring up any statements toward this accusation.

In my opinion, the number of plagiarism accusations that have been made regarding these two fellow indie bands is becoming ridiculous. Although it’s pretty common for artists to condense a word into a single letter (for example, U Got It Bad by Usher) to bring out the crafty effect in their titles, after being pointed out for numerous other “coincidences” CNBLUE had in relations to Ynot, no excuses seem like they will get FNC Music out of trouble now.

It’s disappointing to see such a talented band getting swamped by issues with their company that have nothing to do with the members’ talents. Do you think this accusation was taking it a step too far or are the netizens on to something this time?

--------------------------------------------------------------------

CNBLUE’s composer also plagiarized Usher?

Well, as most of you guys know, CNBLUE, specifically their composer of I’m a Loner, Kim Do Hoon, was accused of plagiarizing Ynot’s Blue Bird. The issue has gotten to a point where some netizens have started accusing that even their album’s title BLUETORY is plagiarized.

Well, another plagiarism controversy has started and this time it’s not really related to CNBLUE, but their composer Kim Do Hoon and Kim Jong Kook’s Can’t Forget from his latest 6th album.

Can’t Forget was composed by Kim Do Hoon and Kim Ki Bum, and the arrangement of the song was done by Kim Do Hoon. The song in which he is being accused of plagiarizing is Usher’s Love in this Club. After listening to both songs, there are definitely similarities… what do you guys think?

can't forget

Love in club

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time he has been accused of plagiarizing. Lee Seung Gi’s Let’s Break Up, SG Wannabe’s Sin and Punishment and Davichi’s 8282 were all also accused of plagiarism.

Teaser for CNBLUE’s new reality show, CNBLUETORY!

On February 4th, CNBLUE was spotted performing their entire debut album Bluetory on the streets of HongDae for about 30 minutes.

The four members of CNBLUE, Jung Yong Hwa, Lee Jong Hyun, Kang Min Hyuk and Lee Jung Shin are scheduled to be on a new Mnet reality show called CNBLUETORY!

The show will consist of performances and surprise events that the members have planned out and directed themselves. The guerilla concert in HongDae was the guitarist/vocal Lee Jong Hyun’s idea, and the other members will be coming out with their ideas for different street performances later. Now, we all know that CNBLUE did many street performances in Japan before their debut, so this will Korea’s chance to see them in action!

Meanwhile, street performances were not the only events that these boys planned. The team even had a small fan meeting, and also visited a small cafe to do some solo performances!
