Star dance battles :D

Star Dance Battle Round 1: MBLAQ vs. Rainbow

in celebration of Lunar New Year, MBC held a Star Dance Battle between the Wang team – consisting of MBLAQ, T-ara, Yoo Chae Young, Kim Na Young, Jo Hye Ryun, Kim Shin Young and 2PM – and the Shin team – consisting of Rainbow, BEAST, Kim Jong Min, Chun Myung Hoon, Noh Yoo Min, SNSD, Shin Bong Seon and Super Junior.

Round 1 was between rookie male group MBLAQ and rookie female group Rainbow.

MBLAQ opened the show with a power dance to Michael Jackson’s 2000 Watt using neon ropes as props. In a sudden change of music, Hwang Jung Eum appeared on to the stage and performed to the butt-shaking hit that is Kara’s Mister. Not only did the boys flaunt their acrobatic skills with the former half of the performance, but they revealed a cute and bubbly side of them with the latter half. Unfortunately, leader Seungho wasn’t present for the show.

On the other hand, Rainbow was coordinated in black outfits and boots, gyrating their hips and kicking their legs to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. They were later joined by Jung Juri, who startled everyone with her dancing ability. Of course, she went a little over the top in the end, but it only induced more laughs from the viewers and made for better entertainment.

Star Dance Battle Round 2: T-ara vs. BEAST

Round 2 was held between five members of T-ara (Jiyeon was absent) and BEAST (Doojoon was absent).

T-ara commanded the stage with the upbeat and addictive tune of D.I.S.C.O. Coordinated in futuristic outfits and blonde wigs, the sexy ladies transformed into Uhm Jung Hwa’s clones while leader Eunjung assumed the role of the featured rapper. Eunjung took the audience by surprise as everything from her slicked hair to her charismatic rapping bore a striking resemblance to T.O.P. himself.

BEAST delivered an equally entertaining show as they danced to Omarion’s Icebox in black hoodies. Their smooth and synchronized dancing definitely sent chills down my spine. Transitioning to a more upbeat track, BEAST flaunted their skills in footwork and popping alike. From the looks of the audience, they seemed to be enjoying the beastly performance as well.

Star Dance Battle Round 4: After School vs. SNSD

n celebration of Lunar New Year, MBC held a Star Dance Battle between the Wang team – consisting of MBLAQ, T-ara, Yoo Chae Young, Kim Na Young, Jo Hye Ryun, Kim Shin Young and 2PM – and the Shin team – consisting of Rainbow, BEAST, Kim Jong Min, Chun Myung Hoon, Noh Yoo Min, SNSD, Shin Bong Seon and Super Junior.

Round 4 was between dancing divas After School and glamorous genies SNSD.

Unlike the other performance, After School’s performance revolved around a theme of seven school girls in classroom. Unable to contain their need to groove, they initiated a cute dance to Lil Mama’s Lip Gloss. As the music changed to Chris Brown’s Wall-to-Wall, so, too, did the choreography. The dancing divas truly lived up to their title as their dance transitioned into that of a powerful and fierce one. Leader Kahi’s abs flash definitely drove the crowd wild as well. Maintaining their stage persona until the very end of the performance, the girls hurried back to their seats with the sound of the bell.

As the nation’s most popular female idol group, SNSD was expected to uphold their end of the battle as well. Gracing the stage in red glittery attire, Hyoyeon, Seohyun, Yoona and Sooyoung maintained great energy on stage that you just couldn’t pry your eyes away from. For obvious reasons, Hyoyeon held down the performance with her solo, her moves matching perfectly to the rhythm of the beat. In addition, Seohyun showed a side of her that was completely different from the innocent image she has always been portraying. Who knew the maknae could move like that?

Star Dance Battle Round 6: 2PM vs. Super Junior

Round 6 was between beastly idols 2PM and SME seniors Super Junior.

Matching white tuxedos and fedoras, 2PM began a nosebleed-inducing, faint-worthy performance to Chris Brown’s Take You Down. The female audience watched wide-eyed as the quintet seduced them with body waves and pelvic hip thrusts. The music picked up with Pitbull’s Bojangles and 2PM was able to convey the beastly side of them that they are so loved and adored for. Taecyeon needs to tone it down with the shirt-ripping though, because he it is getting a bit overrated.

Inspired by Jabbawockeez’s masks and dancing, Super Junior began their performance dancing to a lonely violin instrumental. The dance picked up at the end when the five members tossed their jackets on the ground. As always, Super Junior added a dash of humor into their choreography as they re-enacted a slow-mo of a track race. Most of all, people were impressed with Kyuhyun’s dancing as they doubted before that he could keep up with a dance with that much intensity.
